An exceptionally fine set of eight Highback Windsor Chairs made of yew wood with elm seats.
These chairs were made by a member of the Gabbitass Family. They were the first makers of Windsor chairs in Worksop.
This set of chairs are examples of the most elaborate and decorative form of Windsors produced in the Nottinghamshire tradition and probably the most expensive Windsor of this quality were intended for wealthier clients.
Each chair has a single ring turned legs with elongated bell shaped turning, leading to ball shaped feet; legs are connected by a crinoline stretcher. Four tapered spindles either side of a central back splat. Three tapered under arm supports with arm bow terminating in notches on the under surface. Elaborately fretted top and lower splat. Each chair is in excellent working order.

This chair has quarter round front legs with turned legs below terminating in pad feet joined by a turned stretcher. Square back legs joined by a single turned stretcher. Rush seat with wooden edge grips. The back has round turned spindles supported between two straight decorative cross rails. The upper back rail has a center fan or shell carved motif.
